In a multi-agency operation that ended early this morning, 108 persons were arrested as a result of enforcement efforts by the Singapore Police Force, the Central Narcotics Bureau and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, together with officers from Singapore Customs.
The massive operation led by the Criminal Investigation Department saw the participation of more than 200 officers. The persons were arrested for a host of criminal offences including illegal gambling activities, secret society involvement, peddling contraband cigarettes, vice-related activities, trafficking and drug-related offences. The operation also uncovered persons working without a valid work permit. The arrests were made at various locations including entertainment outlets, back lanes, lodging houses, and along the roads in Geylang and Joo Chiat as well as forested areas in Woodlands. Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Boon Gay, expressed his appreciation to all agencies involved for their strong support in the operation. He added, “Such criminal activities cannot be tolerated. The agencies will continue to work together and conduct such regular enforcement actions.” Investigations against those arrested are ongoing.
