A suspected drug trafficker was arrested in an operation on 12 April 2010. Approximately S$386,000 worth of ketamine, Ecstasy, ‘Ice’, Erimin-5, heroin and cannabis were seized. One Singapore-registered car and cash amounting to S$41,009 were also seized. This is the largest street value of drug seizure recorded so far for 2010. In terms of the seizure of specific drugs, it is also the highest seizure of Ecstasy recorded for the past three years, highest seizure of ketamine recorded for the past two years and highest seizure of Erimin-5 recorded so far for 2010. Since early February 2010, CNB had been monitoring the suspected drug trafficker, after we received information that he had obtained drugs from an overseas drug syndicate. The drugs were supplies to his clients in Singapore. On 12 April 2010, CNB received information that the suspected drug trafficker would be receiving a fresh consignment of drugs from the overseas drug syndicate. An operation was immediately launched. On 12 April 2010, at about 9.40pm, CNB officers spotted the suspected drug trafficker at a void deck in Hougang, carrying three bags. CNB officers then moved in and arrested him. From the three bags that the suspected drug trafficker was carrying, CNB officers found 1,900 Erimin-5 tablets, 507.60 grams of ketamine. Another 4,190.20 grams of ketamine, 256.38 grams of ‘Ice’, 2,186 Ecstasy tablets, 2,660 Erimin-5 tablets, 31.91 grams of cannabis, 8.53 grams of heroin, 16.04 grams of Ecstasy powder and cash amounting to S$41,009 were seized from his hideout at Hougang. Another 3 Ecstasy tablets and 30 Erimin-5 tablets were seized from a Singapore-registered car parked in front of the car park at the block of flats in Hougang. Subsequently, on 13 April 2010 at about 2.50am, CNB raided his other hideout at MacPherson Lane and seized another 3.24 grams of ketamine, 1.28 grams of ‘Ice’ and 240 Erimin-5 tablets. The 44-year-old male Singaporean Chinese will be investigated for drug trafficking offences. Penalties If convicted, the suspected drug trafficker could face a minimum of 20 years' imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane, or a maximum 30 years' or life imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane. CNB will continue with its vigorous enforcement action against illicit activities and to stem the flow of drugs into Singapore. Central Narcotics Bureau 13 April 2010 | |
